To celebrate the special relationship between Sweden and Finland, the choir's journey begins by bringing one of the masterpieces of Swedish choral music to Finland for the first time. We mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Jean Sibelius with a performance of his most famous work for choir, and perform three significant Swedish-language works by Finnish composers. The programme is completed by a revival of Nuorvala's otherworldly madrigals, a Helsinki Chamber Choir commission, and an introduction to the work of the young Oulu-based composer Tapio Lappalainen.
The perfect interpretations of these works show Rautavaara as the master of postmodern vocal music.
