Einojuhani Rautavaara

Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Vigilia has become a modern classic and the Helsinki Chamber Choir’s performance at the Helsinki Festival in 2011 was quickly sold out.  To mark the composer’s 85th birthday, the choir returns to the space for which Vigilia was written, the atmospheric Uspenski Cathedral, and also takes the work on tour in southern Finland.  Jyrki Korhonen has been the leading exponent of the basso profondo solo for more than a decade, and it is a pleasure to welcome back both him and Niall Chorell.

This concert is produced in association with the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE). The concert will be filmed for transmission on YLE and Arte.

There will be a short interval between the Vespers and Matins services.

I can safely now agree with many of my international colleagues that they are probably the best choir anywhere in the world, particularly for contemporary music. I have worked with many choirs round the globe and have never had such good performances.
