* Georg Friedrich Händel  Ode for St Cecilia's Day

Love reveals its many faces in a concert in which emotional compositions by Baroque composers meet a new work by one of the versatile masters of Finnish contemporary composition. French soprano Sandrine Piau, known for her Baroque renditions, and one of Finland’s most acclaimed tenors, Topi Lehtipuu, excel as the soloists. Directed by Hannu Lintu, the concertculminates in Handel’s distinguished but seldom heard Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, the patron saint of musicians.

The concert on 18 August is part of the Turku Music Festival.
The concert on 19 August is part of the Helsinki Festival.

The lines of each section of the choir were straight and clear, as if played by instruments, and yet soft and flexible, supporting an unbroken sense of breathing. Each group sang with pure intonation and the resonance between the voices took on a life of its own, so that the whole space was filled with ringing colours.
