NOVEMBER BRINGS A SPECIAL GUEST: the legendary Andrew Parrott will conduct the Helsinki Chamber Choir for the frst time. Parrott is chiefly known for his remarkable career in early music but his musical range is wide and also includes contemporary music – in tonight’s case the timeless, meditative sounds of Arvo Pärt.
The English renaissance composers John Taverner, John Browne and William Cornysh may not be well-known in Finland but they are among the leading masters of their time. Works by all three are found in the Eton Choirbook, one of the few 16th-century choirbooks to survive the English reformation.
